Guidance and Counselling office Head, Ms. Cherry Lyn Cruz, explained that the activity was undertaken in response to the action research made by their office entitled "Level of Anxiety among Freshmen Students of PLMar for SY: 2020-2021: Basis for Psychoeducational Program".
She went on to say that the prevalence of anxiety for the SY: 2020-2021 results ranges from mild to severe, prompting their office to develop an intervention program by conducting a series of webinars that would primarily focus on various ways that students could cope up their anxiety during this Pandemic period. They also developed an ONLINE KUMUSTAHAN and peer-helping sessions for the students as an avenue for them to express their feelings and thoughts.
According to Ms. Cherry Lyn Cruz, "One of the main factors that may cause poor academic performance in an online class set-up is the lack of gadgets and unstable internet connection, which may result in anxiety. As a result, they are not able to attend and comply with their school requirements." Kyla Lagunoy, a freshmen student who participated on the said webinar, stated "Masaya kasi nakapag-share sila ng thoughts and lessons sa 'min about stress. Marami ding students ngayon na-stress and siguro if nakinig sila makakatulong sa kanila iyon na mamulat sila sa mga dapat gawin kapag nakakaramdam sila ng anxiety at stress.
Anxiety attacks are normal as long as you still function and live productively, but if it's already overwhelming, it needs to be acknowledged. Ms. Cruz reiterated the importance of mental health She likewise encouraged students to visit and book an appointment to the PLMar Guidance Page.
As a student of PLMar, I am also vulnerable to stress. Seeking help is not showing weakness but acknowledging the fact that by handling stress, I am able to help myself with the help of others as well.
This Pandemic period has a huge impact on every student. requiring a lot of adjustment needs to be done. On the other hand, students can also view this as an opportunity to become brave in facing life challenges, to be resilient, and to be reflective in these trying times.
